The sacred and the profane are juxtaposed in the person of the cat/godess/trickster/temptress character, whose lack of dialogue is a constant mockery of the two human protagonists, who strive comically using the feeble tools at their disposal -- reason and language -- to navigate an absurd and shifting landscape. Their tragedy is made all the more poignant in the face of the massive quietness of an indifferent universe -- personified by the gray sky and the green grass in the final scene.
